passed away on December 21, 2020 in the Progressive Care Unit of the Kent Hospital in Warwick after suffering briefly yet needlessly from the scourge of COVID-19.
“Auntie” was born in Providence on January 30, 1928, and spent her entire life as a Rhode Island resident, last living at her home in Cranston, where she had retired after a long career with the National Chain Co. in Warwick, followed by a stint working as chief bookkeeper for Snyder Plumbing Supply, after which she retired. She was the widow of the late Domenic Pascale, whom she loved dearly and unconditionally. She bore no children of her own, but her God-given gifts of generosity of spirit, faithful love of family, and devotion and dedication to the happiness and peace of others allowed her to be a second mother figure to many of her nieces and nephews that she leaves behind. She believed in putting others first, in lengthening the table to make sure everyone gets to sit, and that when you have more than you need, give it to those who DO need. She lived and loved unconditionally, and was fiercely independent until her final breath. She was a light in the darkness so many times for friends and family, and her like will not be seen again, as she was truly a uniquely gracious and nurturing soul who left an indelible impression on anyone who was blessed to know her. Her surviving family members and friends are devastated by her loss.
And all of the above is why her death, even at her advanced years, was so unfathomably tragic and gratuitous. Her death is another pointless stain on the ledger of indifference and selfishness of the 45th President of the United States, a craven, callous, and soulless charlatan who allowed this disease to spiral wildly out of control, the feckless and indolent “leaders” who have done his bidding, and the slack-jawed, troglodytic science-denying sycophants who then and still refused to take this pandemic seriously, and were more concerned with popularity and votes than the lives of Americans. Her death, and those of 317,000 others and counting, is the direct and proximate result of the inaction of these people, as well as the millions of other ignorant, selfish, and boorish jagaloons who refuse to follow the admonitions of the medical profession because their precious unearned “freedom” to refuse to wear a mask and follow simple rules of contact was a brief inconvenience that was somehow infinitely more important than killing innocent people.
As a result of the continuing inability of this country to do a few simple things to arrest and control this disease once and for all, there will be no calling or visiting hours.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 30th at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Cranston. Seating will be limited. Masks are required and social distancing will be observed. Her interment in her final resting place with her beloved husband, her mother, Anna (Caduto/Amitrano) DiOrio, and her “Bunny”, Peter P. DiOrio is private.
