Richard A. Powell

71, of Johnston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 4, 2018. He was the beloved husband of thirty-eight years to Marie R. (Tomao) Powell. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Thomas J. and Edith (Wayss) Powell. Richard was a truck driver for McLaughlin and Moran, Inc. for ten years before his retirement. He was a US Army veteran serving in Germany during the Vietnam War era.

Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, Edward M. Joseph, Richard D. Joseph, Robert P. Joseph and his wife Nina, and Michael S. Joseph, all of Johnston. He was the cherished grandfather of eight and the great-grandfather of seven. Richard was the brother of Karen Marbry of Arlington, TN, Joan Jordan of Jamestown, and Thomas Powell of Warwick.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Cross Church, 645 Hartford Avenue, Providence. Burial will be private.
