Patricia McGinn Malloy, born on July 15, 1932, to the late Joseph and Myra (Paulhus) McGinn, passed on December 24, 2023. She was the sister of the late Eileen Cote Tramonti, Maureen Robberson, and Doris Lariviere, and is survived by her sister Frances Cobb. When the McGinn sisters were together, either gathering their families to share a holiday or playing a game of cards among themselves, laughter and love filled the air.
She was the wife of the late Judge Edward F. Malloy; they raised their children Patricia Cerilli, Michael Malloy, Marianne Kirby, Karen Godfrey, Kathleen Malloy, and Terence Malloy between Providence and Wesquage Beach, Narragansett. At the close of each school year, the family would pack up and move to the beach house where they would enjoy summers filled with swimming, cookouts, family, friends and epic wiffle ball games.
Patrica was the beloved mother-in-law to Peter Cerilli and Jamie Malloy and the devoted grandmother and matriarch to Evan Cerilli (Lauren Bordes), John Cerilli (Haley Smith), Tyler Cerilli, Christofer Malloy (Alexandra DeMarco), Nicholas Malloy (Cindy Chappel), Michael Malloy, Cara Malloy (Mike Sklar), Ian Kirby (Micaela), Molly Kirby (Jake DeCastro), Rory Kirby (Jacob Sargent), Christopher Spargo (Conor McEvily), Kaitlin Spargo (Joe Volpe), Siobhan Spargo, Madeline Godfrey (Brian Abrahamsen), Lucy Foster (Charles), and Jake Clarke.
She was the great grandmother to Maya Cerilli; Mason, Valentina, and Luca Malloy; Kelley, Declan, and Beatrice Kirby; Gracie Volpe; and Edith Davoren.
If her nose wasn’t in a book (and she swapped books with everyone in the family), she could be found with knitting needles flying as she finished a sweater or hat for a grandchild. She was a presence on the tennis court, with her consistent and decisive backhand and enjoyed rounds of golf perfecting her three wood. She was an ardent fan of New England sports teams and would remind her family when “the game was on.” After sending her children through college, she returned herself and completed a degree in liberal arts.
After her husband Ed passed, she carved out a life for herself as a snowbird in St. Petersburg, Florida, making many friends and enjoying their company on Caribbean cruises and tours of Europe.
The late Richard Boreri, her loving companion of many years, and she shared adventures together sailing Narragansett Bay or cruising to the Cape and Islands, as well as traveling to Alaska and Hawaii to visit his children.
She will be remembered for her loving and practical insights, wry wit, easy chic style, the joy she took in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and her delicious chocolate chip cookies.
She had ninety-one years of a rich and fulfilling life and will be deeply missed.
