John E. DeCosta, Sr.

69, of North Providence, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Friday, December 30, 2016 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. John was the beloved husband of 16 years to Mary Ann (Richardson) DeCosta and the late AnnMarie (DeFalco) DeCosta. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph and Marion (Day) DeCosta. John was an operations engineer for Cosco Fence and Guard Rail Company before his retirement. He was a member of Union Local #57, the Teramano and Toscan Clubs. John was a hard worker and loved his dog “Mercedes”.

Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, Dawn Andrade and her husband Hugo of North Providence, Jeanette Scarcella and her husband Joseph of Johnston, John DeCosta, Jr. and his wife Michelle of Cranston, Melissa DeCosta of Kingwood, TX, Concetta DeCosta of LA, Stacey DeCosta of North Providence, his step-children, Gina Oliver and her husband Kevin of North Providence, and Jason Giampietro and his wife Debi of Warwick. He was the cherished grandfather of seventeen and the great-grandfather of sixteen. John is also survived by seven sisters and one brother.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Thursday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
