born on July 18, 1962, in Xieng Khoaung, Laos, passed away peacefully at his home on November 9, 2024, surrounded by his family. Beloved by family, friends, and strangers alike, he will be forever remembered for his vibrant presence, gentle kindness, and the laughter and joy he brought to those around him.
Sam lived a life that was an embodiment of finding beauty and gratitude in every day and everything, whether it was at work, at home, or at play. He held a bachelor’s degree from Rhode Island College and a master’s degree from American University, achievements that demonstrated his love of education. He pursued a commendable career as a disability examiner for the State of Rhode Island, where he made some of his best friends.
Beyond academia and work, he cherished his time on the golf course and the company he shared it with. His greatest pleasure, however, was helping his wife, Ly Kue, harvest their garden, tend to their home, and raise their family.
From a nice sunset to a room full of loved ones laughing, he appreciated and documented everything industriously on his phone. His vibrant presence, love for conversation, and enthusiasm for life’s simple joys will be sorely missed by all.
Sam is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Ly Kue, and their six children, Holly Xiong and her husband Marcelino Abou Ali, Robin Xiong, and Jackie Xiong, Peter Xiong and his wife Carol Gao, Ryan Xiong, and Connor Xiong; and granddaughter, Nathalia Abou Ali. He is also survived by his brothers, Tong Xeng Xiong, Xay Khu Xiong, Jou Sou Xiong, and Chang Xia Xiong.
Sam was predeceased by his father, Nhia Lue Xiong; his mother, Song (Vang) Xiong; and brother, Nou Cher Xiong.
His funeral service will be held on Friday, November 22 from 5-7pm, and Saturday, November 23 from 11-12pm at NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, RI 02910.
