WILLIAM A. "HERMIT" PARR

91, of Cranston, passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley E. (De Feo) Parr. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Edward and Madeline (Layfield) Parr.

Bill was a ring tool maker for over 50 years and worked at Clark & Coombs Co. in Providence for 36 years before retiring in 1987. A U.S. Army Staff Sgt. during WW-II, he was with the first troops into Berlin. His unit was given the Presidential Citation - 83rd Division Artillery - American Order of the French Croix DeGuere. He was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Nelson Mack VFW Post 4651 where he was serving as Senior Vice Commander; a member of the Battle of the Bulge National and Delaware Chapter; and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #99.

Bill was the loving father of Susan J.Carr and Shelly J. Holland, both of Cranston; and the late Donna J.Roles; father in law of Charles Roles, Thomas Holland and the late Philip Carr; loving grandfather of six; loving great-grandfather of four; and dear brother of Myrtle Petrone of Cranston, Vera Parr of Warwick, Marilyn Ostermann of TX. Edward Parr of Barrington and the late Isabelle Merola.

Funeral Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by interment with military honors at RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter. VISITING HOURS Monday 4-7 p.m.
