WILLIAM F. NEWMAN
William F. Newman, 80, of Newman Ave., Johnston passed away Monday June 8, 2009 at Village at Waterman Lake in Greenville. He was the husband of the late Evelyn A. (Rega) Newman. They were married for 46 years. Born in Johnston, he was the son of the late Frank J. and Clara (LaPrade) Newman.
In 1948 he and his father co-founded Frank J. Newman & Son, Inc. Bill was a former member of the Johnston Hose Co. #3, Smithfield Sportsmen's Club, charter member of the Smithfield Lodge of Elks #2359, and a member of the Alpine Country Club. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Grace Church and served on various committees. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed tennis, skiing, golf, and traveling. He was the father of William J. Newman and his wife Jo-Ann, Annette L. Amato and her husband Ralph, Frances M. Guinn and her husband Kevin, and Lisa A. Taraian and her husband Mikel; grandfather of Vanessa and Matthew Newman, Adam and Michael Saccoccio, and Christopher and Adrian Guinn; and brother-in-law of Henry V. Rega. He was the step brother of the late Raymond Doyle. His funeral will held on Friday at 9:15 AM from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Grace Church, Johnston at 10:30 AM. Burial will be St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting Hours Thursday, 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Our of Lady of Grace Church Memorial Fund, 4 LaFayette Street, Johnston, RI 02919-2712.
