William R. "Bill" Molloy, MSW 59, of Cranston, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 at Rhode Island Hospital, Providence. Billy was the beloved husband of Nannette (Cerra) Molloy. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late William J. and Julia (Marino) Molloy. Mr. Molloy was a Social Worker for the Cranston School Department for thirteen years before retiring in 2002. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War era. After returning from military duty, Bill graduated from Rhode Island College in 1975. He completed his Masters Degree in 1983 while on dialysis. In 1982, Bill helped found the National Kidney Foundation. Then a dialysis patient Bill served on a variety of levels from Board Chair to President. In 1985, the National Kidney Foundation dissolved to later be reorganized in 1987 as the Rhode Island Kidney Foundation, where he served as its Executive Director. In 1992 the RIKF merged with the National Kidney Foundation. Bill served as the Director of Patient Services for twelve years. Bill received his first kidney transplant in 1985. That same year with the help of two other transplant patients and the parent of a recipient the RI Organ Donor Awareness Committee was formed. Known as RIODAC the organization was a network for transplant patients and their families. Bill facilitated the support group for ten years. He worked at Harmony Hill School, RI Renal Institute and the Cranston Community Action Program. Besides his wife he is survived by one sister Patricia Molloy Fancher and her husband Clair of Murell's Inlet, SC and one brother Russell A. Molloy of Johnston. Bill was the son-in-law of Nicholas and Martha Cerra of Johnston. Brother-in-law of Nicholas Cerra, Jr. and Sally-Anne Cerra of Cranston. He was the cherished uncle of Scott, Craig and Lauren Cerra of Cranston. Kristin Fournier and her family of New Hampshire, Leigh-Ann Barrett and her family of New Jersey. Kevin Melfi and his wife Julie of South Carolina. Kelly Molloy and Daniel Molloy of New York. Billy also left extended family Andrea and Mike Anzalone , Salvatore Guglielmo, his special friend Keene Ferrer, his kidney donor and his dog Shadow, his constant and loyal companion. Bill was a member of the St. Mary's Church Senior Choir, past member of Valley Country Club, where he served on the membership committee. He was a member of the National Association of Social Workers, past member of the Warwick Nurseries Golf League, Kidney Transplant Dialysis Association. Disabled American Veterans. Johnston Hose Company #3, past member East Natick Veterans, RI Organ Donor Awareness Coalition. A caring and compassionate man, Billy will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Thursday 4-8 p.m..
