Virginia (Razza) Santagata 89, of Cranston, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Friday, March 20, 2009 at West Shore Nursing Center, Warwick. She was the beloved wife of the late Frank B. Santagata. Virginia was born in Providence, and was the daughter of the late Ernesto and Antonetta (Martellini) Razza. Virginia, a lifelong Cranston resident, worked in the jewelry trades as a young woman and later worked for many years as an account executive at Midland Insurance Agency Inc. She may be best known for having "the house across from the field" at Sherman Avenue where, for decades, she opened up her home to many Cranston Western Little Leaguers and their fans. She was also famous for her spinach pies, wine biscuits, needlepoint and her sense of humor. She loved being with her family most of all. She was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan . Virginia is survived by her devoted daughter Darlene (Santagata) Sczerbinski and her husband Peter of Cranston, and her loving son Frank Santagata and his wife Diana of Las Vegas, Nevada. She was the cherished "Gram" to Sheri (Sczerbinski) Conca and her husband Tony of Cranston, Michele (Sczerbinski) Diaz and her husband Rob of Warwick, Peter Sczerbinski Jr. and his wife Julie of Davidson, North Carolina, and Andrea Santagata of Las Vegas. She was the proud great-grandmother of Jared McMullen, Gabriella Conca, Sophie and Mia Sczerbinski and Benjamin Diaz. Virginia was also the loving sister of Emma Ursini of Cranston and Emily DiPanni of California, and the late May Zarrella, Alfred Razza, Eddie Razza, Edith De Falco and Julia Napolitano. She also leaves behind many dear nieces, nephews, family and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial of Monday, March 23 at 10:00 AM in St. Timothy's Church, Warwick Ave., Warwick. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey- Hospice Health Care 2374 Post Rd.
