94, a lifelong Johnston resident, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Friday May 11, 2012 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice In-Patient Center in Providence.
She was the wife of the late Sylvester V. Pistacchio, Sr. for 60 years.
Virginia was born in the Hughesdale section of Johnston and was the daughter of the late William and Mary (Votolato) Misischia.
She was a devoted wife and loving mother to Sylvester "Bud" Pistacchio and his wife Mary Gina of Johnston and Ronald Pistacchio of Johnston. She was an adoring grandmother to Jennifer Nardelli and her husband Stephen of Cranston, Jonathan Pistacchio and his wife Kristy of Johnston and Jeremy Pistacchio and his wife Melissa of North Providence.; and six great-grandchildren.
Virginia was pre-deceased by her nine siblings, Dr. Cosmo Misischia, Dr. Nicholas Misischia, Frank Misischia, Herbert Misischia, Etta Misischia, Lucy D'Andrea, Florence Martinese, Carmela Santilli and Natalie Arthurs.
Mrs. Pistacchio worked as a teacher's assistant for many years at the Hughesdale Kindergarden and Nursery where she was known by her adoring children as "Miss Jean". She was a den mother for Pack 10 Cub Scouts of Johnston and Cranston for many years, later she became a den mother's trainer.
Her funeral will be held on Monday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Robert Bellarmine Church Johnston at 10 a.m. Entombment will be in Our Risen Christ Garden Mausoleum at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.
