Virginia “Jeng” A. Lirio, 71, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Alex G. Lirio, with whom she shared love and partnership for over 40 years. Born in the Philippines, she was a daughter of the late Venzon Tejido Aromin and Conchita Vicencio Aromin. Mrs. Lirio received her bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of the East in the Philippines.
She was a consummate professional giving her very best to, and demanding the same from, her colleagues and industry. A successful career like hers spanning 44 years, four states, and three continents is celebrated best by one word: creativity. From home decor to “As seen on TV” products to handmade arts and crafts, Virginia was a creative force to be reckoned with. Her family, friends, and colleagues have benefited in some way from the unique gifts she bestowed on all of us. Whether it was a snow globe candle holder, handmade jewelry or ornament, or helping to foster our own creative forces, she was the ultimate resource.
In her later years, returning to home and family in Rhode Island became not only a physical move but her life’s mission. Virginia was a matriarch in her own right, leading our small family through feast and famine, and imparting wisdom and guidance to the great numbers we count as family and friends. She was a provider and gatherer, host and mentor, counsel and educator. She was a 5’2”, 102lb strong-willed Filipino woman that Brando wishes the Godfather was modeled after (probably). But chief among these, she was ours. And we were hers. She was one of us and someone we looked up to. And she is now, at once, our great joy and our great loss.
She leaves behind her love in life, Alex, their best (only) son Jason, and his wife Sam; and her siblings Rolando, Tessie (Malong), Jack, Bong, Elmer, Vic, and Ireene Aromin; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews. She was the granddaughter of the late Doroteo Vicencio, sister of the late Oscar Aromin, sister-in-law of the late Cecilia Aromin, and aunt of the late Roy Aromin. She also leaves behind her canine companion, confidant, and loyal footwarmer Barnaby Jones as well as her fierce guardian granddog Junebug Louise.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 10 AM in St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett. Her burial will be private. Kindly omit flowers, however gracious donations to the family will go towards the cost of the funeral and gifts to Animal Rescue Rhode Island and HopeHealth Hospice & Palliative Care.
