87, of West Palm Beach, Florida died Sunday, December 23, 2007, at the West Palm Beach V.A. Medical Center where he resided for the past 10 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Loreto and Gaetana (DePetrillo) Gallo. Virgilio, a veteran of World War II, proudly served in the U.S. Navy Seabees as a Motor Machinist's Mate, First Class. He was assigned to the following units: 103rd NCB in Pearl Harbor and Guam; NCTC in Davisville, RI; Pontoon Assembly Det. #5 in Guam; Construction Battalion Det's. 1047 in Davisville and 1081 in Okinawa. He was awarded the following Decorations: World War II Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Theatre Medal. Upon discharge from the U.S. Navy, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator/expert mechanic by the Federal Government at Quonset Point and Davisville, RI, including servicing the Coventry Nike Missile Site, until his retirement. He was a member of the F. & A.M., Nathanael Greene Lodge #45 in Warwick. He was the father of Debra (Gallo) Vincent of Cranston; Lawrence Gallo of Warwick; Beverly Gallo of Virginia Beach, VA; and Sharon Gallo of North Kingstown. Grandfather of three. Brother of Antonio Gallo, Elena and Gloria Zito , John Gallo and the late Albert Gallo, Antonetta Colardo, Joseph Gallo, Laura Zanfagna, Mary Scotti, Viola Kennedy and Silvio Gallo. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at 10 A.M. at Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Rd. Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the West Palm Beach V.A. Medical Center FISHER HOUSE; 7305 No. Military Trail; West Palm Beach, FL 33410 and would be greatly appreciated.
