Violet R. Melfi (VOLPE), 82, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Anthony Melfi, Jr. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Vincenza (Germano) Volpe, and was a resident of Cranston for the last 50 years. Violet, a homemaker, who was extremely proud of her Italian heritage, devoted her entire life to her family, her friends, and her community. Her passions included cooking, gardening, and babysitting her various grand-dogs. Violet always cherished spending time with her loving daughter, whether it be shopping, traveling together, or simply talking. A shining star in her community, Violet was active in Cranston politics for the last thirty years. Her family was her greatest joy and she was loved, adored, and admired by all who knew her. Violet was an inspiration to all who were blessed to be a part of her life. Violet is survived by her beloved daughter Robin M. Coia and her son-in-law Raymond C. Coia, Esq. of Cranston, and two step-grandsons Raymond, Jr. and Niccolo. She was the sister of Gloria Mendillo, Elena Barra, Delores Capobianco, and the late Nicholas Volpe. She was the sister-in-law of Mildred Melfi, Clara Compagnone, Evelyn Henry, Agnes Castiglione, Raymond Melfi and the late Olga DiPetrillo, Emma Chiello and Mitchell Melfi. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and a wealth of devoted friends. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave Cranston on Thursday at 9 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church Cranston Street Cranston at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
