Vincent A. Caramadre, 64, of Cranston, passed away on Oct. 26, 2022. He was born in Providence, RI to the late Frank and Yolanda Teresa (Prata) Caramadre. He is survived by his siblings Annie, Joseph, John, Paula (Cranston) and Anthony(Warwick).
As a toddler little Vinny curiously discovered that twisting-instead of pulling-a flashlight revealed its mysteries which quickly led to no working flashlights in the house. Pre-K Vinny meticulously drew detailed fire engine trucks and while riding through Silver Lake and Olneyville, Vinny called out passingautomobiles by year, make and model to Mommy and Daddy.
After St. Bartholomew’s in Providence and St. Mary’s in Cranston, Vincent wanted to be educated by the Christian Brothers and became a proud graduate of LaSalle Academy in Providence. He played hockey for LSA and continued his love for the sport into his adult years, frequently inviting friends and family to watch the annual LSA student-alumni hockey games. From goalie to playing forward, Vin eventually volunteered his time as a youth hockey coach with CLCF and SRIYHA and R.I. College. Vin glided effortlessly on the ice.
He introduced skating to his first nephew Nick, 5, and nieceGina, 3, selecting their gear, driving to Cranston Ice Rink, lacing skates, taping, and most importantly reminding them to “always wear gloves on the ice” for protection against the sharp blades. His priorities were straight. Finally ready for the ice, Gina calledout, “Uncle Vinny I have to go to the bathroom!” Vin loved sharing the ice with the kids.
Vin earned his B.S. in Applied Mathematics at the University of RI. Vin initially lived at ZBT, then in dorm life at Barlow Hall, meeting lifelong friends along the way. Ultimately he joined Chi Phi where he gained brothers for life.
Vin loved learning. Remarkably he absorbed, retained, and shared his knowledge in detail. Vin continued his education in accounting, electrical and computer engineering. He taught himself plumbing and carpentry, never missing an opportunity to consult with experts along the way. In addition to his exceptional industrial and technical skills, Vin had excellent language abilities in Italian and French.
Vin was employed at Acom Artificial Intelligence Software Development in Montreal, where he enjoyed hockey and skiing; Kendall Manufacturing and Charleton Memorial Hospital (MA); performed Y2K conversions; and ultimately at URI’s Chemical Engineering Dept as the Lab Manager.
Vin could troubleshoot your computer by phone long before virtual IT support was a concept. He designed, assembled and built his computer for fun. He always offered assistance with automobile, electrical and plumbing repairs. He was very committed to sharing his wealth of knowledge by tutoring his nieces, nephews and friends’ children in math, calculus, engineering and chemistry – often offering entire text books and problem sets for extra practice because he was passionate about helping young people excel in the sciences.
Vin loved his family and cherished his relationships with his 7 nieces and nephews, Nick, Gina, Michelle, Michael, Amelia, Maria and Daniel…and their annual Paw Sox game. Vin valued his friendships and enjoyed his local spots: Thursday nights at Mottola’s house, Johnny Camp at Casertas, Chuckie at Deluise’s Bakery, pick up hockey games in ice rinks all over RI, Royal Buffet and the hot wiener runs.
In 2010 Vin beat mantle cell lymphoma stage 4. Since then he humbly offered his daily prayer to God, for strength to endure suffering and in gratitude. We were blessed with Vin’s larger-than-life exuberance for 12 more years. We love you Vin. Continue to teach us as you enjoy eternity’s ice rink.
