VINCENT "VINNY" CALVITTO

VINCENT "VINNY" CALVITTO, 86, of Niverville St., Johnston, passed away Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the beloved husband for 62 years of Carmella "Emily" (D'Agostino) Calvitto. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Matteo and Rose (Cicotti) Calvitto.
Vinny was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 38 years before retiring in 1987, and was a WW-II U.S. Army Corps of Engineers veteran serving in the Pacific Theatre with the 43rd Infantry Division. He was Past National Commander of the 43rd Infantry Division Veterans Association; a life member of V.F.W. Post 45, Providence; a member of Letter Carriers Association; and co-founder and first President of the Johnston Little League. Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Anne Marie Souza and her husband Anthony of Johnston; loving grandfather of A.J. and twins Mark and Matthew Souza; loving great-grandfather of Jonathan Vincent Souza; and dear brother of Louis Calvitto of Johnston, Annette Kemery of FL, Theresa Ramieri of Wakefield and the late Michael, Carmino "Cal" and his twin Bruno Calvitto. Funeral from the NARDOLILO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Saturday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Bartholomew's Church, Providence at 10:00 a.m. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
