ViINCENT 'JIM' IANNAZZI

90, of Johnston, died on November 29, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Elma (Coda) Iannazzi and they were married for 65 years. Born in Providence, RI, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Starninio) Iannazzi. He was employed by the John Hancock Ins. Co. for 32 years, retiring in 1982. He was very active in union affairs serving as Secretary of the local union and was later elected Vice President of the local unit. He was elected to serve as a national contract negotiator for John Hancock representing the Southern New England District.

A veteran of World War II, Mr. Iannazzi served with an Army Intelligence Unit as an NCO Specialist having attended the University of New Hampshire for further intelligence training. He participated in the Normandy invasion landing at Omaha Beach. His unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation for their intelligence work. He was the recipient of 5 battle stars. Mr. Iannazzi was a founding member of Cranston Post 8 ITMA, and was elected its 1ST

Commander. He was also a past member of American Legion Post 64.

Mr. Iannazzi was a Cranston Councilman from 1952-1954 and after moving to Johnston he was appointed Health Officer, was a member of the Johnston Democratic Town Committee and later was elected Councilman serving from 1970-1972. In 1980 he was appointed Johnston Sewer Commissioner serving for 15 years. He was a member of the Alpine Social Club and one of the original 92 members who built the Alpine Country Club and served on the Board of Directors for 6 years. In 1970 he was elected President. Mr. Iannazzi was an avid golfer and enjoyed his 39 years at Alpine.

He is survived by his two daughters Karen J. Ferruolo and her husband Alfred of Warwick and Lori A. Marcotte and her husband Stephen Theriault of Coventry, his three grandchildren David Ferruolo, Lauren O'Rourke and Eric Marcotte and four great-grandchildren Kaleigh, Logan, Addison and Dylan. He was the brother of the late William, Anthony, Guido, Pasquale Iannazzi and Josephine Faella.

Visiting Hours will be held on Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave Cranston, followed by interment with military honors at Highland Memorial Park Cemetery Johnston. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: Meeting Street School, 1000 Eddy Street Providence, RI 02905.
