TIMOTHY JOHN PETRONE, 57, formerly of Johnston, Rhode Island, passed away on May 23, 2008, in Weeki Wachee, Florida.
Born in Providence, Timothy was the beloved son of Helen S. Petrone (Olszowy) a former Special Officer of the Johnston Police Force, and the late Benjamin Victor Petrone, Sr. He was a resident of Providence before moving to Johnston in 1963 and living there for 43 years. He was a communicant of St. Rocco's Church.
A polio survivor for 55 years, Tim showed great courage and determination to succeed in school and in all his lifelong endeavors, and he was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was active with the Boy Scouts from a very young age, and became a troop leader of Troop 12 for disabled youth at Camp Yawgoog. Tim loved fishing, political discussions, playing chess, and he was an environmental activist. He was a life-long music lover, playing harmonica, and was the lead singer of the Laurence Talbot Band for many years. He enjoyed finding and trading music and sport collectibles and participated in sports memorabilia shows. He was a graduate of Johnston Senior High School and Roger Williams University. His laughter and friendship were given freely, and his ability to achieve even with physical challenges of his life, earned admiration from his family and many life-long friends.
Besides his mother, Helen, who was devoted to his care, he was dearly loved by nine siblings; two brothers, Lt. Col. Benjamin Petrone, Jr. (Ret), of Tampa, FL, and David Petrone of Cranston, and seven sisters, Kathryn O'Hare of West Warwick, Felicia Petrone of Johnston, Julie Pettis of North Providence and Matunuck, Elizabeth Charlebois of Coventry, Mary Jane Morris of Gibsonia, PA, Christine Speciale of West Greenwich, and Michaela Ballirano of Johnston. He also leaves five brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, twenty nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews.
His kind and generous spirit touched many lives. He will be sadly and profoundly missed by all who knew him.
His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco's Church, 927 Atwood Ave., Johnston at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston.
