58, of North Providence was born to eternal rest on Thursday, September 17, 2009, in his home which he built for Anne (DeCristofaro) Quinn, his wife of twenty-eight years. Anne and their daughters, Annie, and Tara were at his side with other family and friends present. Tom was born in Providence to Mary (Wheelan) Quinn of Providence and the late Thomas J. Quinn, Jr. who died August 1, 2009. Besides his mother, he is survived by his uncle, Br. Gregory Quinn, FSC, and seven sisters. Tom graduated from Rhode Island College earning two bachelor degrees and was awarded a Masters Degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He taught in the Providence schools for 27 A½ years. At Mount Pleasant High School he taught Industrial Arts. Students of all abilities were welcomed in his classroom where he gave them the confidence and self-assurance that only a true educator can. His last position was at Classical High School in the history department. In 1979 Tom joined the Military. He retired in 2007 with the rank of Lt. Colonel, USAR. Tom was a respected teacher, treasured friend, beloved brother, faithful son and son-in-law to the late Bill and Frances DeCristofaro, and a most devoted husband and father. Tom began a love of sailing in childhood under the tutelage of his father. His Dad taught him not only how to sail but also how to build boats. They spent a great part of their lives together on their vessels. For many years each would sail his own sloop to Martha's Vineyard where he vacationed with Anne, Annie, Tara, and his "brother" Dick Duguay, wife Kathy, and sons Billy and Bobby. Tom is survived by his wife, Anne (DeCristofaro) Quinn; his daughters, Annie and Tara. Tom leaves seven sisters: Mary Burke, Kathleen Quinn-Henry, Ellen Quinn, Rosemary Quinn Dumont, Sara Quinn, Teresa Quinn, and Elizabeth Quinn Johnston; brother-in-law, William DeCristofaro and wife Linda. Tom had twenty-two nieces and nephews and seventeen great nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, 179 Academy Avenue, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in Saint Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Monday 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
