We sadly announce the passing of Thomas Frank, 90, of Cranston. He was the beloved husband of Cynthia (John) Frank with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage. He was the son of the late Nicholas and Christina (Fourkalidou) Frank. Born in 1934 in Kavala, Greece, Thomas’ family immigrated to Ellis Island in 1945. Soon after, Thomas’ father opened Star Diner in the Theatre District in NYC. Over the years in NYC he met his future wife and they found their way to RI to start a family.
Without a formal Education, Tom was a determined, self-taught, and hard-working man. In 1968 he opened his restaurant The Big Cheese & Pub in Cranston until 1998. He was a mentor to many who worked with him. He had passion in everything he put his time into. For many years after retirement he enjoyed spending time in Greece, gardening for hours at a time and taking his daily swims.
