Thomas E. Caputo

August 21, 1933 — October 13, 2020

Thomas E. Caputo

87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 13, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Concetta (Connie) (Tortolani) Caputo, of 61 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of  the late Edward G. and Helen (Turchetti) Caputo and his sisters, the late Barbara Voccola and Arlene Brosco.

Besides his wife, Thomas was the loving and devoted father of Barbara Savella and Dr. Edward Caputo; dear father-in-law to Dr. Judith Caputo and the late George Savella; adoring grandfather to Francesca, Edward, Brianna and Thomas; and his canine companion, Coco.

Thomas honorably served his country during the Korean War as a medic and chef to troops serving abroad. Shortly after Thomas returned home, he met his cherished wife Connie at a local dance, and after seeing her from across the room, telling his friends “I’m going to marry that girl”- and he did.

Thomas was the proud owner of Eddie and Son Diner in Providence, RI for 68 years, serving

politicians, movie stars, those in need, and so many more who cherished the “dinner and show” atmosphere. Remembered for the best “baked mac” in town, his customers were family. Thomas began working at Eddie and Son’s at only 13 years old, working before and after school every day until he took over ownership from his father.

Thomas was a life-long member of the Alpine Country Club where he enjoyed playing cards with friends and was an avid golfer. Thomas was lovingly known as “the cook” to all his friends. He had three true loves in his life that he devoted himself to- his precious family, his restaurant, and the Alpine Country Club.
