72, of The Villages, Florida and Lincoln passed away at home after a short illness on Wednesday, July 25, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of John A. Scungio. She was born in Providence a daughter of the late Angelo and Julia (Pompei) DiMaria. Teresa was a graduate of Classical High School and the University of Rhode Island and had taught school at Green Acres and North Providence school systems for a brief period before devoting her life to her family. She was a member of many social organizations and was a past president of the Women's Youth League of Rhode Island. A loving mother and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of fifty one years, her son John B. Scungio and his wife Susan of Lincoln, two grandchildren, Alec and John Scungio and her sister-in-law Ann Colavecchio. She was the aunt to Louis Colavecchio and Susan Taglianetti, and leaves a great niece Ava and two great nephews, Nicholas and Joel Taglianetti. She also leaves her dear friend and cousin, Anna Viti. Her kindness, generosity, and beautiful personality will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10am in St. Agnes Church, 100 Chatham St., Providence. Visiting hours and Entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Agnes Church Rectory, 351 Branch Ave., Providence, RI 02904.
