Susan Emery MacKay was born in Gardner, MA on April 1, 1946 to Margaret Girardi Emery and Robert Emery of Athol, MA. She graduated from Athol High School in 1964 where she was a cheerleader and active participant in numerous clubs and activities. In 1968, she graduated from Newton College of the Sacred Heart, now merged into Boston College, in Newton, MA.
She was married to the late Robert A. MacKay, formerly of Athol. She lived in Granby, CT where she was an active volunteer serving as president of the Newcomers’ Club, the town-wide PTO, co-founder and president of the Women’s Investment Club of Granby, and as a certified Master Gardner for the UConn Cooperative Extension Service. She was elected to the Granby Board of Education three times, serving for nearly ten years. She was employed by CT Public Television & Radio for many years, by the CT Business & Industry Assn., and by Capital Workforce Partners in Hartford.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathryn (Katie) MacKay, of Newport, RI, and a son, Andrew S. MacKay, his wife Cherie, and their son Bodie S. MacKay of Narragansett, RI.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visiting hour on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am in the Nardolillo Funeral Home SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL 1111 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett, RI followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in St. Veronica's Chapel 1035 Boston Neck Rd. , Narragansett. , RI. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: RISPCA 186 Amaral St., Riverside, RI 02915.
