Sue (Gionis) Cimino

December 22, 1912 — October 6, 2018

Sue (Gionis) Cimino

Died peacefully in her sleep on October 6, 2018 at Roberts Health Center in North Kingstown.  She was 105.  She was a lifelong resident of Providence, moving to Narragansett in 2007.

Her parents Peter and Eugenia Gionis owned the Governor Dyer, a landmark restaurant in Providence.  Later she worked at the Outlet Company, a Providence retail store.  Later in life she went to work at the R.I. Department of Motor Vehicles where she retired in 1982 at the age of 70.

She was the mother of James Cimino of Narragansett and the late John Cimino.  She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Lisa, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Sue found joy in helping all who came in contact with her.  Whether it be volunteering for the Church of the Annunciation in Cranston’s many charitable events or at the Ronald McDonald House where she provided support to Greek children and their families for medical attention.

She loved going to parties and functions at her church.  Sue was a lifelong member of the Philopoulas, GAPA and Daughters of Penelope and served on the parish council in the mid-1980s where she was a recipient of the parish laity award in 2009 at the age of 93.

She was the godmother of 30, 7 of whom invited her to be the sponsor at their weddings, and godmother of their first child.  Sue never complained and always found good in everyone.  A smile was always on her lips.  She will be missed by all.  A special thanks to all the loving caregivers at Roberts Health Center who called her yia yia and attended compassionately to her every need.

Her funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by funeral service at 10:00 a.m. in the Church of the Annunciation in Cranston.  Burial will take place in North Burial Ground, Providence.  VISITING HOURS are Thursday from 4 – 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Church of the Annunciation – Greek Orthodox of Greater Providence, 175 Oaklawn Ave., Cranston, RI 02920.
