of Coventry, RI, passed away May 29th, 2022 at the age of 72. Born in Providence, and grew up in Cranston, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Marian (Bashaw) O’Brien. Steve leaves his devoted wife Lisa (Conti) O’Brien, and loving daughter Carla. He was the proud uncle of Meghen, Candyce (husband Terry), and Andrea (fiancé Mark). Steve was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He worked and retired from G.M. Gannon/Advanced. Steve enjoyed organizing and playing softball and basketball for many years. He also coached Carla’s basketball team for years, where they won championships. Steve was a member of the B.P.O.E #2285, where he was Elk of the Year in 2014. He was also a member of the Newport Hibernian Club. He was a proud Irishman and was the World’s Biggest Leprechaun in the Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade for 20 years. He was a parishioner of Christ the King Church, and a member of Club Jogues. He was an avid sports fan of all New England Sports.
Steve was predeceased by his brothers, Kenneth and Dennis, and sister Robin. He leaves their loving families, nephews Kenneth, Kamron, and Konor O’Brien, and nieces Elissa and Sydni O’Brien. Steve also leaves his sister-in-law Susan, nephews Robert, Ben, Ryan, Sam, and Jack, nieces Steph, Annie and Amy. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law Bryan Conti, nephew Kirk O’Brien, and leaves his loving nieces Heather, Hope, and Hannah. Steve was the best son-in-law to the late John and Lillian Conti (Poppy & Nina). Steve leaves many loving family and friends who gathered often. We would like to thank VNHH, Hulitar Hospice and Right at Home for all the care and support.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday, June 6th at 9:00 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Mark Church, Garden City, Cranston. Burial with military honors will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS will be held on Sunday from 3:00 – 7:00 pm. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local food bank or animal shelter.
