Steven J. Dunphy, Sr., 69, of East Providence RI passed away on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at Philip Hulitar Hospice In patient Center in Providence. Born in Providence, Steve was the son of the late Edward and Mary E. (Buote) Dunphy. He was a social worker before retiring. Steven’s love for baseball resonated on and off the field. “Snappy” was known for being a devoted New York Yankees fan, and developed an umpiring business that flourished for many years. His fondest memories revolved around umpiring with friends and family. Steven also loved holidays; dressing up as Santa Claus every Christmas for his loved ones. His big personality, humor, and quick wit will always be remembered.
He is survived by his loving children, Matthew E. Dunphy of East Providence, Steven J. Dunphy, Jr. and his wife Sheila Dunphy of Plainville MA, and Margaret M. Dunphy of East Providence. Steve was the cherished grandfather of Addyson and Edward Dunphy. He was the dear brother of Mark Dunphy, Carol Botelho, Jeanne Petite, John Dunphy, and the late Joseph Dunphy.
His funeral services will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday, August 27th from 4-7 p.m.
