Steve S. Holmes, 56, of Providence passed away on December 13, 2023, at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Lofa County, Liberia he was the son of the James and the late Amerlia (Kumba) Holmes. He was the beloved husband of Christine (Raczkowski) Holmes, for 34 years.
Steve struggled a long way to make it to the United States in 1989. He and Christine were married in 1990. He was a longtime Nurse Assistant, for various medical facilities. This was something that he took great pride in, he was a warm, kind, caring and gentle person that excelled in his chosen profession. He wanted to make sure that everyone was taken care, and very dependable. He was an avid basketball fan. His favorite team being the Boston Celtics, and a close second would have been the Golden State Warriors. He loved to be around his family, he loved to laugh and talk, he especially loved talking politics with his friends making sure that he took care of all of them the family here and home in Africa. He was extremely proud of his African Heritage. He had a love and passion for music of all types, including R&B, Reggae, traditional African music. Bob Marley, and Lucky Dube we’re some of his favorites. He was able to help his younger brother James come to the United States in 2011, then allowing for his wife and children to join him. He was extremely proud and happy for that accomplishment.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children Amerlia Holmes, Emory Holmes, and James O’Farrow. He was the brother of James Holmes, John Holmes, Tamba Holmes, Kumba Holmes, and Yawah Holmes. He also leaves his step siblings.
His Funeral Service will be held Friday December 22, 2023, at 9:30 am at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston. Burial will be immediately following in North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS will be held Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 pm.
