77, of Cranston, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 29, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Linda Ide. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Stephen R. Ide, II and Evelyn Ide.
In the 1970’s, Stephen was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church in Providence where he was very active in the charismatic prayer group and as a volunteer in the soup kitchen. In the 1980’s, he was a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo where he taught parent preparation for infant baptism, and was also active in the charismatic prayer group, where he met his wife Linda. Stephen was currently a parishioner of St. Mark’s Church in Cranston.
Stephen began his career in the VA Medical Center in Providence, where he worked as a Nuclear Medicine Technician. He then decided to further his career by attending Southern California College of Optometry where he received his doctorate (OD). He opened his own Optometric practice in Warwick where he practiced for several years before joining the Optometric Providers of RI, working in their Warwick and Narragansett locations. He loved spending time with his family, especially volunteering as a summer camp Cub Scout Leader with his sons.
Besides his wife Linda, he is survived by his loving sons, Stephen and Joseph Ide, both of Cranston; dear brother J. Christopher Ide and his wife Robyn of Jensen Beach, FL. He is also survived by his nieces, Laurie Frye, Casey McGrath, and Courtney Faucett (Josh); nephew Casey Ide; great-nephews, Robert Frye, Jordan and Zachary Faucett. He also leaves his beloved dog Saylor.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Friday, January 5th at 8:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 am in St. Mark’s Church, Garden City, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Thursday, January 4th from 5:00 – 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: RI Food Bank, 200 Niantic Avenue, Providence, RI 02907.
