SPERO G. "SPIKE" KAROL

91, formerly of Cranston, passed away at home, peacefully with his children at his side on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Pappas) Karol for fifty-one years. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late George and Mary (Perdikis) Karahalios. Spero graduated from Classical High School in 1936. He was a captain in the US Army during WW II. During the war, he was stationed in Egypt, China and Greece serving in the intelligence unit of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS). He was also a member of the US Government Reserve. A 1953 Brown University graduate, Spero's career as a production control manager began at Madison Industries and continued at Tower Manufacturing where he retired in 1989. He was a member of the Society of Carbide Engineers. Spero was an active member of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church where he served as a Sunday School superintendent and chairman of the iconostasion committee. He also served on the parish council and building and library committees. This past February, the church honored Spero with the first annual Annunciation Laity Award. Of all the treasures in his life, he valued his family the most. He was a kind, gentle, wise, loving teacher, husband, father and grandfather. He was the devoted father of Marilyn Pelosi and her husband Dick of Longmeadow, MA and Linda Limperis and her husband Jim of Seekonk, MA. Spero was the loving grandfather of Chris and Erica Pelosi and Mark and Alyssa Limperis. Spero was the beloved uncle of several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Bessie Trambukis of East Providence and the late Thomas and Charles Karahalios, Mildred Panagetopoulos, Bertha Sarganis and Toola Moretti. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by services at 11:00 a.m. in Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Cranston. Burial will be in the North Burial Ground, Providence. VISITING HOURS Sunday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church Endowment Fund, 175 Oaklawn Avenue, Cranston, RI 02920.
