Sergio Schiappa

83, of Cranston, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2020. He was the beloved husband of Mirella (Sinapi) Schiappa. Born in Itri, Italy, he was a son of the late Rafaelle and Francesca (DiNola) Schiappa.

Sergio came to the US in 1971 and settled in the Knightsville area of Cranston. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church and a member of the St. Mary’s Feast Society. Sergio worked as a mason for G. Marini Masonry for many years before retiring. He enjoyed making homemade wine, playing cards and took great pride in his beautiful vegetable and flower gardens. Most of all, he enjoyed the weekly Sunday dinners around his table with his beloved family.

Besides his wife Mirella, he is survived by his loving children, Marco Schiappa and his wife Robin of Cranston, Fosca Avizinis and her husband Joseph of Cranston, and Valeria Schiappa-Nelson and her husband Chris of Cranston; cherished grandchildren, Jonathan Schiappa and his wife Heather, Lauren Schiappa, Michael Schiappa, Emilio Verdone and Lorenzo Verdone; great-grandchildren, Carson and Claire Schiappa. He was the dear brother of Delio Schiappa of Itri, Italy, Rafaella Didia of Lyon, France, and the late Gerardo Schiappa and Gelsia Saccoccio. Sergio also leaves his beloved dog Blackie.

VISITING HOURS will be held in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Wednesday from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. His funeral service and burial are private. In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Sergio we ask that you enjoy dinner with your family.
