Sergeant Philip Kujawski "Kujo"

62, of Old Saybrook, CT passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 1, 1961, in Middletown, Connecticut to the late Louis and Phyllis (Goff) Kujawski. He was the husband of Pamela (Litch) Kujawski and the father of Gabrielle Kujawski. He leaves behind his loving wife and daughter, his close nephew and birthday buddy Jack, as well as 4 brothers, Michael, Dennis, Mark, and his twin brother David. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Phil worked as a Security Officer at Middlesex Hospital during the 90’s. After leaving Middlesex he went on to be a Federal Police Officer for the Department of Defense for 18 years at the US Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Connecticut. Phil went on to become a Non- Lethal Weapons Instructor, an EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation Course) Instructor, teaching others how to drive properly in emergency situations, an NRA Instructor instructing proper procedures for weapons safety along with conducting weapons qualifications, and spoke yearly at the Mothers Against Drunk Driving events, following his accident in 1981 where he was hit by a drunk driver. He was recognized in 2015 for his dedicated and outstanding service to the community by the Groton Lodge of Elks #2163. He received many more awards during his career such as Civilian of the Quarter, preserving the life of a woman who had attempted to take her own life, and being an Officer for the US Government for 15 years. Phil was commonly known at work as “Sarg”, “Kujo”, or “Ski”.

Phil enjoyed spending his free time fishing with his father and daughter, hunting, cooking, shooting, gardening, and boating with his wife and daughter. Those who knew Phil could describe him as the salt of the earth, a man's man, or a cop's cop. He devoted his life to his family, and doing what he loved with them.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 AM at Middlefield Cemetery, 402 Main Street, Middlefield, CT. Friends and family are welcomed to a celebration of life, immediately following services at the home of his sister in law, Lori Giannotti.
