92, of Warwick passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Briarcliffe Manor, Johnston. He was the former husband of the late Mary D. (Pagliaro) Rachiele. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Angelo and Rose (Militerno) Rachiele and respected Angelina (Militerno) Rachiele whom he considered his mother.. Sam was a truck driver for Calore Express and a member of Teamsters Local #251, East Providence for twenty-seven years before retiring in 1975.
He was a US Army decorated Veteran serving during WW II. Sam was an avid sport fan, bowled for YPSC, and played AAA CYO baseball, and was invited to the Boston Braves spring training camp before entering the service.
He is survived by his loving children Samuel F. Rachiele, Jr. and his wife Joan of Cranston and Sharon Fargnoli and her late husband Steven of Las Vegas, NV. He was the cherished grandfather of Samuel III and Tara, Robert and Rhonda, Steven and Jamie, and Jennifer. He was the great-grandfather of Heather, Brianna, Katarina Kennedy, Kayleigh and Robert (my buddy) Jr. He was the brother of Marie Salvati, Susan Scungio, Catherine Antonetti, Elena Mancini, Lucy Swenson, and his companion Viola Korpacz, and the late Sal, Joseph and Ralph Rachiele, Joseph and Vincent Moscaro, Concetta Proccancini, Teresa Pallotta, and Rose Constantino.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Thursday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 64 Brayton Avenue, Providence. Interment with Military Honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
