Salvatore Palumbo, Jr.

89, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Wednesday January 15, 2025. He was the beloved husband of the late Regina A. (Salvatore) Palumbo. Born on Vinton St. in Federal Hill, and the youngest of eight siblings, Salvatore was the son of the late Salvatore and Maria (Valenti) Palumbo, Sr., both of Frosinone, Italy.

Salvatore served proudly in the US Army National Guard for over 11 years. Following his discharge, he went to work for Community Development in the City of Providence. Shortly after, he became a radio dispatcher with the Providence Police Department for over 20 years. As a dispatcher, Salvatore was exemplary, receiving numerous commendations for his skill and composure under pressure, ensuring the safety of Providence Police Officers with his guidance and direction over the airwaves. Referred to as “The Voice”, Salvatore was loved and respected by many local law enforcement officers who felt safest on their patrol when he was on the radio, often stating that “Sal” was the best dispatcher Providence has ever seen. He retired in 1997 with the status of a legend. Following his retirement, Salvatore enjoyed spending summers at his home in Narragansett and treasured every moment spent with his family.

Salvatore is survived by his loving sons, Salvatore R. Palumbo and Steven T. Palumbo, who were both at his side when he passed. He was the brother of Stella Marzullo.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 at 8:45am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in St. Pius V Church, 240 Eaton Street, Providence. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS will be held on Monday, January 27, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm.
