Salvatore Mario Loporchio

90, of Cranston passed away peacefully with his sons at his side on Saturday, March 27, 2021.  He was the beloved husband of the late Norma (Grieco) Loporchio.  They were married for 57 years.

Born in Providence’s Federal Hill section, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Gabrielle (Capaldi) Loporchio.  He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant  in 1952.  A lifelong learner he became a welder/machinist/designer at EG&G-Sealol working on  aerospace projects which included the Apollo Space Program.  He continued with his computer skills and welding designs employed as a consultant well into his eighties.

He greatly enjoyed travel, music, dancing, golf, computers but most of all spending time with his family and friends. His favorite destinations included Caserta Pizzeria, Solitro’s Bakery,Harriet’s Kitchen, the Alpine Country Club and Bonnet Shores Beach Club.

He was the devoted father of Salvatore J. Loporchio, MD and his fiancé Robie McFerran - her children Derek McFerran and Kerri Pavao - and Steve Anthony Loporchio and his wife Susan.   Sal was the cherished grandfather of Dr Dean & Dr Komal Loporchio, Lindsay Loporchio, Michael Loporchio Briana Curreri and Danielle Manzo. The great grandfather of Mia, Eliana, Mio, and Justina. In his later years he was the partner of Rosemarie Giusti with whom he enjoyed travel and meeting with childhood friends. He was the brother of the late Anthony, Joseph, Carol (Ervanian) and Carl Loporchio.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 5th from 4-8 pm in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, April 6th at 10 am  in St. Mary’s Church, Cranston (social distancing and masks required), followed by a burial with military honors in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a VFW Hall of your choice.
