Salvatore R. Gentile, 86, passed away on Monday, February 28, 2022. He was the son of the late Cosmo and Frances Gentile of Cranston. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Monica Gentile, who he was married to for 61 years. Sal and Monica met dancing and fell in love immediately; their love was evident throughout their entire lives. Sal was a devoted, loving, and intellectual father figure to his three children, Karen Cardillo, Keith Gentile, and Kenneth Gentile all of Cranston; cherished grandfather of Tiffany Cardillo, Dennis Cardillo, Jr., Gian Gentile, Jourdan Rancano, Brenden Gentile, and seven great-grandchildren. Sal also leaves behind his sister, Rose Principe-Sargent of Connecticut.
Sal was a veteran in the army where he started a band and was a trumpet player in the U.S. Army Band in Germany. He later received his Masters of Education and was a retired machine shop teacher at William M. Davies, Jr. Career and Technical High School. Sal loved working with his students, was a creator of all things, and a positive influence in other people’s lives. He was a role model to his children whether it was having a pertinent article ready, sharing advice, or teaching his children how to strive in life.
Besides being extremely intellectual and crafty, Sal was quite the jokester. He had a joke ready for every occasion. The jokes were not only restricted to the family members, the wait staff, bank tellers, and others were also lucky to hear his jokes that just seem to materialize. Sal enjoyed bringing smiles to many. He will be remembered for all of his positive qualities and will be sadly missed by every life he has touched, especially his loving wife, Monica, who was his other half.
The service and burial is private to the family. Burial at St. Ann’s Cemetery in Cranston.
