85, of Knowlesway, Narragansett passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Carmella (Grande) Bianca for 65 years. He was born in Providence a son of the late John and Carmella (Rossi) Bianca and he had resided in Narragansett since 1972. Mr. Bianca was a foreman employed by the City of Providence, Parks and Recreation Dept. for 32 years until his retirement. He was also a self-employed carpenter. Mr. Bianca was a WW II Navy veteran serving as a Gunner's Mate in the armed guard during the Pacific and Atlantic Campaigns and participated in the Murmansk Run for which he was the recipient of the Russian Medal of Valor. He was a past commander of the VFW Post # 592, the DAV, Rosario Society, Italo-American Club and had coached the Olneyville Little League for 25 years. He was also an avid NY Yankee fan. Beside his wife he is survived by his loving children, Richard and Robert Bianca of Narragansett, Diane Hassell and her husband Paul and John Bianca and his wife Joann all of Johnston, Russell Bianca and his wife Marcia of Cranston, David Bianca and his wife Donna of Foster. He was the father of the late Salvatore Bianca. He was the cherished grandfather of 12 and also 1 great granddaughter. He was the brother of Prudence Briggs of Greenville and the late Mary Lupo, Louis, Marcellino and Carmino Bianca. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 7:45am from the Nardolillo Funeral Home SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. ( Rt. 1A ) , Narragansett followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary, Star of the Sea Church, 864 Pt. Judith Rd., Narragansett at 9am. VISITING HOURS Friday 4-8pm. Burial, with Military Honors will take place in R.I. Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
