RONALD A. CRUFF

79, of Bonnet Shores, Narragansett and formerly of Edgewood, Cranston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Jane F. (Shea) Cruff for 56 years. Born in Attleboro, MA, he was the son of the late Walter and Geneva (Kittredge) Cruff.

Mr. Cruff was an independent insurance agent for the past 50 years as owner of The Cruff Agency and most recently as an independent insurance consultant associated with Affiliated Insurance Managers. He graduated from LaSalle Academy and served in the U.S. Marine Corps. A 1956 graduate of the University of Rhode Island, he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and ROTC. Mr. Cruff was very active in the community especially at his alma mater, URI, where he served as President of the Alumni Association; member of the URI Foundation Executive Board; URI Foundation Trustee; and President of the URI Century Club. He was an original organizer of both the 5th Quarter Club and Fast Break Booster Club. He was inducted into the URI Hall of Fame in 1985 and was the recipient of the RAM Award in 1986. For several years he served as President of the Theta Chi Fraternity Eta Chapter. He was an active member of RI Joint Reinsurance Board; Independent Insurance Agents of RI; Professional Insurance Agents; and the Bonnet Shores Fire District Council. He also coached and supported several youth league teams.

Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Patricia A. Evangelista and her husband David of Jamestown, Dr. Dennis M. Cruff and his wife Lisa of Poquoson, VA and Martha J. Sheridan and her husband Arthur of Wakefield; loving grandfather of Jenna, Lauren, Meryl, Victoria, Paige, Macallan, Liam and the late Zachary; and dear brother of the late Geneva Ann Sheridan.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME -SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Rd.(Rt.1A) Narragansett on Monday at 8:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Rd., Narragansett at 10 a.m. His burial will be private. VISITING HOURS are SUNDAY from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
