88, of West Warwick, passed away Sunday, November 11th, at home. He was born in Providence on November 5, 1930, the son of the late Walter W. and Edith G. (Soper) Mathewson. He was predeceased by his wife of 48 years, Maria C. (Apicerno) Mathewson. He is survived by his loving daughters, Kathy Mathewson of Cranston, Susan Grecco and her husband Leonard of East Greenwich, and Joanne Mathewson of North Providence. He is also survived by his grandson Alex Grecco of New York City, who brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was the brother of the late Walter W. Mathewson, Jr.
Bob was a retired industrial engineer who spent his 45 year career with Uniroyal Inc., formerly the US Rubber Company. He began his career in Providence, transferring to Mishawaka, IN, spending his last working years in Port Clinton, OH, as Manager of Industrial Relations and Industrial Engineering at Uniroyal Technology, Inc. before retiring in 1991.
He was an Air Force veteran, a member of the Coventry Seniors Golf League and a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, West Warwick.
During his retirement Bob enjoyed his family, friends, golfing, exercising at Healthtrax and was never one to shy away from a good political debate. He was an avid New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox fan. He looked forward to his winter trips to Naples, FL.
Bob was fiercely loyal and had unshakable character and integrity. He could always be counted on and will be forever missed by his family.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, on Saturday, November 17th, at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph’s Church, 854 Providence Street, West Warwick, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Friday November 16th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
