70, of Johnston, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Miriam Hospital, Providence, in the arms of his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Vendetti) Holcomb for 48 years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Donald and Rita (Henry) Holcomb.
During his lifetime, Richard was the golf professional at Melody Hill Country Club and Triggs Memorial Golf Course, and was the golf instructor at the Seekonk Driving Range for 29 years. Richard, aka Ricky Pro, was founder of the RI Senior Open, which he hosted for 15 years, and most recently he taught golf lessons at Valley Country Club, and was the master club fitter at Golfers Warehouse in Cranston. He took great pride in teaching his students the game he loved so much.
In 1973, Richard set the East Coast Speed Golf record at Triggs, playing 18 holes in 39 minutes and 17 seconds, carding an 89. Besides golf, Richard loved to sing and was a devoted fan of the Boston Celtics and NY Yankees.
Besides his wife Diane, Richard is survived by his two loving children, Richard Holcomb Jr., of Providence, and Melodi (Caruso) Lee and her wife Karen of Cranston. He was the brother of the late Donna Michaeloski. Richard also leaves behind his adored dog, Daisy.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 23rd, at 10 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by his Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, Johnston. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Monday from 5-8 p.m. Flowers are respectfully omitted.
