Richard J. Henriques

70, of Wakefield, passed away on March 18, 2024.  He was the beloved husband of Gail J. (Garofano) Henriques for forty-seven years.

Born in Fox Point, Providence, a son of the late Diamantino and Leopoldina (Pires) Henriques; his family was one of the first to build a home on Narrow River where he then grew up.

Richard’s life was very storied. He had a heart of gold and a solid work ethic; as his career started at a young age at his father’s linguiça factory and deli on Gano St. Then, after a bit of college his travels led him to serve the US Army over in Germany during the Vietnam War. Later to become a commercial fisherman for much of his adult life & then a restauranteur. Richard’s last & most important career was as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service before recently retiring. He loved his job, his colleagues & helping people.

Richard was an avid boater and golfer. He knew how to drive a boat before a car. Richard loved going out to dinner on the weekends with his wife and enjoyed family breakfast every Sunday. He loved watching a game on TV and hanging out with his kids. He was dedicated to his job and devoted to his family. Richard loved his people and they loved him back.

Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Jessica and Tara Henriques of South Kingstown; a son-in-law, Nicholas Gorham of Narragansett and a sister-in-law, Diana Henriques of Wakefield; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Paul J. Henriques.

His funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at 12pm in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt. 1A), Narragansett.  Burial with Military Honors will follow in the RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.  VISITING HOURS Monday from 4-8pm.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Save the Bay, 100 Save the Bay Drive, Providence, RI 02905.
