Born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Hagop and Surpouhi (Toumayan) Hanoian, he lived in Providence until 1961. Mr. Hanoian was educated in the Providence schools after which he operated a grocery market. He served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps as Staff Sergeant. In 1958 he became employed by the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier for 35 years. After retirement from the Postal Service he worked in the home mortgage industry for 10 years.
He was a communicant of the Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, serving some 60 years on the altar and as choir member. He also served on the board of trustees, and one term as its chairman. Richard was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by a Funeral Service in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Swan Point Cemetery in Providence. VISITING HOURS are TUESDAY MORNING from 9-10 a.m.
