RENE H. VIAU

80, of Simmonsville Ave., Johnston, passed away on Friday, April 20, 2012, at Philip Hulitar Inpatient Center in Providence. He was the beloved husband of the late Marion (Murray) Viau. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late John L. and Elmira (Narbonne) Viau.

Rene was a painter and worked for Val-Lyn Decorators for many years before retiring. He was a Corporal in the U.S. Army and a combat veteran of the Korean War, participating in the conflict on Pork Chop Hill.

He was the devoted father of RenAC. H. Mitchell of Howey In The Hills, FL and Linda M. Garceau of North Providence; loving grandfather of Charlie, Robbie, Danielle, Michelle and Erica; loving great-grandfather of Caleb, Frankie and Kayden; and dear brother of the late Lorraine Bell, Marcelle, and Delcy Viau. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Charles H. Mitchell, of Clearwater, FL.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Wednesday at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Cross Church, 645 Hartford Ave., Providence at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter. VISITING HOURS are Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
