RENE D. Bouchard 89, of Phenix Ave. Cranston passed away on Friday September 11, 2009 at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the beloved husband of Rose (Ruggieri) Bouchard for the past 62 years and resided in Cranston for 55 years. Born in Sherbrook, Quebec he was the son of the late Louis J. and Marie
A. (Auger) Bouchard- Morin.
Mr. Bouchard was a WW-II Army Veteran where he received 9 medals including the Bronze Star for ground combat in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater of operations as PFC under General George Pattern in the Armored Infantry Battalion. Rene also served in the Invasion of Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle of the Rhineland in Central Europe, and also was one of the first Americans in the Jewish Concentration Camp to save the remaining survivors. Mr. Bouchard worked in the City of Cranston for the Highway Department for 21 years retiring in 1978. He also was a Private Detective and in 1955 he worked at Brown & Sharpe and the Cranston Emergency Police. Besides his wife he is survived by his daughter Carol A. Kelley and her husband Steven F. of Exeter. He was the father of the late Robert Bouchard and brother of the late Armand D. Bouchard, Henry J. Bouchard and Alice Tessier. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Nardolillo Funeral Home 1278 Park Ave. Cranston followed by interment with Military Honors in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
