94, formerly of Johnston, passed away on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at home. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa (Natalizia) Sylvia. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Manuel and Ellen (Wilson) Sylvia. Ray was the original owner of Ray's Florist in Providence for thirty years before retiring in 1981. He was a communicant of St. Bartholomew's Church and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. Ray was a US Army veteran serving during WW II. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his loving daughter Ellen Silva and her husband Art of East Greenwich. Raymond was the cherished grandfather of Claudine Prokopis and her husband Peter of Lynnfield, MA and Ellen Millea and her husband Christopher of Cranston. He was the great-grandfather of Michael, Alexandra, Luke, Jack, Kathryn, and Kennedy. Ray was the brother of Mildred Baldwin of Pawtucket, and the late John and George Sylvia, Celia Parker, and Helen Clarkin. He is also survived by his niece Anna Crossley and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, `1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bartholomew's Church, Laurel Hill Avenue, Providence. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston.
