RAYMOND A. DEMERS, 86, of Providence and formerly of Dade City, FL, passed away Monday, February 2, 2009 at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy E. (Ward) Demers. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late George and Florence (Cartier) Demers.
Mr. Demers was a postal supervisor for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years retiring in 1978 and was a WW-II U.S. Army Veteran. He held various positions in the Traveler's Rest Club in Dade City, including an instructor and carver in the Carving Club; and was a member of Dade City Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed traveling and playing bocce and golf.
Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Norman R. Demers and his wife Karen of Charlotte, NC, Paulette L. Turco of Manchester by the Sea, MA, Suzanne D. McKiernan and her husband George of Narragansett, and Madeleine M. Demers of Cranston; loving grandfather of Damian and Andrew Turco, Kevin and Kelly McKiernan, and Adam, Sean and Marisa Hill; loving great-grandfather of Maizie Hill, Gavyn Dernberger and Bianca Turco; and dear brother of Dolores Kimmel of Coventry, Doris Paquette of Hope Valley and the late Rev. George, Wilfred, Alfred and Robert Demers, Florence Morrisett and Irene Houle.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pius Church, Eaton St., Providence at 10:00 a.m.
Inurnment will take place at RI Veterans Cemetery in Exeter at a later date.
