RAYMOND J. CAHILL, JR

80, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the beloved husband of Eileen J. (Lester) Cahill. They were married fifty-four years. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Raymond J. and Alice D. (Henry) Cahill, Sr. Mr. Cahill was a Deputy Fire Chief for the City of Cranston for forty-three years before retiring in 1991. He was a past member of the Cranston Firefighters Softball Team. In his youth he played semi-pro basketball. Ray was an avid Red Sox fan and attended Florida spring training for many years. He was a communicant and a former Eucharistic Minister at St. Ann's Church. He was a US Army veteran and trained the Japanese in firefighting after the war from 1946 to 1948. Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving daughters, Patricia C. Jackson and her husband Bob of Cranston, Joan M. Cahill and her husband Bob Cita of Juneau, AK, Kathleen J. Cahill of Chico, CA. He was also the cherished grandfather of Christopher D. C. Jackson, Caitlin E. C. Jackson, Jami R. Cahill, Kayla R. Cahill and Raymond J. Cahill III. Ray was the brother of Robert J. Cahill and his wife Ellen of Warwick. His funeral will be held on Friday at 9:00 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Ann's Church, Cranston Street, Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITNG HOURS Thursday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Poisson Cournoyer Chapter, PO Box 41555, Providence, RI 02940.
