Peter Taraian

94, of Seekonk, MA, formerly of Barrington, RI passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 21st.

He is survived by his four sons: Peter and wife Kathleen, David and wife Lynette, Gary and wife Sonya, Mikel and wife Lisa, and predeceased by his loving wife of 65 years, Roberta, and by his sisters Mary & Teresa Taraian. 

He also leaves seven cherished grandchildren: Michelle and her husband Colby, Peter Jr., Rachel, Sam, Harrison, Gary Jr., and Zachary to whom he enthusiastically gave his time and wisdom and was never shy of telling them stories.

Born to Haiganoush (Agnes) and Barsam Taraian of Providence, he often talked proudly of growing up in the Douglas Avenue area where he developed many lifelong friendships. Peter joined the US Army in 1953 and proudly served in the Korean War. Upon returning home he met the love of his life, Roberta, and in 1965 he co-founded United Plating Inc. which he ran and operated successfully for the next fifty years. In 1967 he moved the family to Barrington, RI providing a wonderful family life as a devoted husband and father. 

One of his greatest passions was golf, taking up the game in his mid-thirties as a member of the HYE Hackers. He was a long-time member of Pawtucket Country Club where he shared countless rounds with dear friends. 

He was honored as Man of the Year at Sts. Sahag and Mesrob Church for his service and contributions and was a member of the church choir until his passing.

Peter was a man of incredible character and will forever be remembered as a loving and supportive husband and father and most especially as a proud grandfather and patriotic American.

Visiting hours to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Saturday, January 25th from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, 70 Jefferson St., Providence, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church Choir.
