PETER P. RECCHIA

PETER P. RECCHIA

of Ocean Avenue, Matunuck Point, South Kingstown, R.I. passed away unexpectedly on Palm Sunday March 24, in Naples, FL where he recently moved to spend his winters. He spent the previous 14 seasons on Marco Island, FL. Prior to moving to South Kingstown Peter lived in Cranston, R.I. for 60 years.

Peter who was 100 years old and born in Millbrook, NY was one of eleven children of Virginia Colomello and Pietro Recchia. He was married to his high school sweetheart Eileen Weed for 49 years who passed away in 1990. Peter is survived by his beloved daughter Eileen L. Recchia and son-in-law George W. Zwerver of Naples, FL and Matunuck Point. Eileen has been her father's caregiver for 23 wonderful years. Peter graduated from Cranston High School where he was a varsity basketball and football player. He served in WW II as an x-ray technician in the Army hospital in Tuscaloosa, AL. After serving in the Army Peter worked in the jewelry industry and retired in 1985 from Forte Jewelry, Inc., East Providence, R.I.

His retirement years were spent fishing and boating in Narragansett waters, gardening at his home in Matunuck Point and traveling. Peter and his wife served on the Board for South County Hospital, which they supported in many ways. Peter was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Cranston for many years; the R.I. Yacht Club and a founding member of the Matunuck Volunteer Fire Department.

Peter is predeceased by his five brothers Joseph, Orlando, Edward, Lawrence, and Charles and four sisters Priscilla DelBonis (John), Philomena Rocchio (Joseph), Jenny Caputo (Gary), and Mary D'Amore (Salvadore). He is survived by his sister Betty Bunting of Colorado and many nieces and nephews.

A private burial service was held at St. Ann Cemetery Chapel on Thursday, March 28. Donations in his memory may be made to South County Hospital, Office of Development, 100 Kenyon Avenue Wakefield, R.I. 02879.

He will be dearly missed by his daughter for he was the "best dad" one could have.
