52, of North Providence passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at R.I. Hospital from injuries sustained in a fatal car accident. He was the beloved husband of Gladys Rocchio. Born in Providence, Patrolman Rocchio, a 22 year veteran of the Providence Police Department, was a respected senior officer of the force. Patrolman Rocchio grew up in Cranston, graduating from Cranston High School East. As a young man, he was employed at Park Avenue Gasoline Station, a well known neighborhood family business. His love of cars led him to open his own used automobile business in Johnston, but in 1987 Peter's greater love of police work drew him to the Providence Police Department, where he served with honor and distinction until his untimely passing. Peter received many commendations and awards during his tenure as an esteemed public servant. In addition to his wife, Peter is survived by a large, closely-knit family. He deeply loved his three children, Peter Jr. of Norway, Felicia and Nicholas of Warwick. He was the devoted, eldest son of Peter and Marie ( Christy ) Rocchio of Cranston; loving brother of Joanmarie Blessington, Valerie Barber and her husband Robert and Paul Rocchio all of Cranston; Patricia Monroe of Glocester; Debra Veasey of Grafton, MA; Phillip Rocchio and his wife Lisa of Coventry. Peter was also the caring uncle of 16 nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at10am in St. Matthew's Church, Elmwood Ave., Cranston. Visiting hours will be private for family members and close friends only. Committal prayers will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery Mausoleum, Cranston.
