CORRECTED NOTICE; Peter Megrdichian of Cranston passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 10, 2021 surrounded by his beloved family. He leaves his beloved wife, Lucy (Kojoian) of 60 years along with sons John (Debra) and Stephen (Rena) and four loving grandchildren, Melissa, Mari, Garen and Peter. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Ohan and Margaret (Soghomonian) Megerdichian. He was the brother of Michael O (Janice) Megrdichian, Elizabeth M (V. Jack) Sabounjian and dear cousin of Michael M (Barbara) Megrdichian. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth M. Megrdichian.
After graduating from Central High School in January 1950 he entered the United States Army in July of 1952 and served during the Korean War. Upon his return he attended Brown University and attained a B.A. in Psychology in 1958, he later attended the University of Rhode Island and obtained his Masters Degree in Public Administration in June 1965.
He entered state service at the Department of Personnel in 1960 and in 1968 he was promoted to Assistant Hospital Administrator at the General Hospital of the Rhode Island Medical Center. In 1974, he was promoted to the hospitals' Chief Administrative Officer. It was during his tenure the hospital achieved accreditation from the Joint Commission of Hospitals. Peter retired from state service in July 1989. He entered private business and worked in real estate and as an administrator in a home health care company. He retired permanently in 1993.
Peter was a faithful and devoted member of Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Church. He sang in the Choir, he was a member of the Armenian Church Youth Organization of America - Providence Chapter, he served on the Parish Council, served as a Diocesan Delegate, Investment Committee member and served on the Bingo Committee. He Chaired the 1966 ACYOA General Assembly. He was past commander of the Knights of Vartan Arax Lodge #11 Providence, he was a past Master of the Fraternal Order of Masons NETOP Lodge, Seekonk. He also served on the Board of Directors for the Cranston YMCA. He was an avid softball player for his Church for over 20 years and was a diehard Boston Red Sox and New York Giant fan. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
