Peter Alviti, Sr.

September 7, 1923 — July 14, 2021

Peter Alviti, Sr.

97, from the Silver Lake section of Providence for most of his life, passed away peacefully in the presence of his family on July 14, 2021 at Hope Hospice.  Born September 7, 1923, Peter was the son of the late Orlando and Alessandra (Marchioni). Peter was the husband of the late Mary (Meloni) Alviti and the late Corrine (Tedesco) Alviti. He is survived by his children, Peter Alviti,Jr., and his wife, Kathy Lanni of Coventry and Patricia Loffredo of Cranston. He was a loving grandfather to Valerie Marini, Anthony Loffredo, Lauren McGlade, Daniel Loffredo, the late Victoria Alviti and step-grandfather to Dr. Matthew Mendillo, Andrew and Nicholas Mendillo. He was a proud great-grandfather to James, Nicholas, and Camille Marini, Charlotte Loffredo and step-great grandfather to Sylvie Mendillo. He was a brother of the late Raymond, Vincent, John, Italo and Ralph Alviti and Josephine Ciancola, Rose Arrighi, and Valeria Delgado. He was a proud WWII veteran having served his country in the US Army in the South Pacific Theater in the Philippines and Japan.  After the war, like many others of the Greatest Generation, he achieved the American Dream  working with his various brothers first at the Oak Hill Market then as a tool maker and machinist at Alviti Tool & Dye and BelAir Tools.  During those years he raised a family with the love of his life, Mary, and built his own house in Silver Lake next to the home he was born in and embodied the work ethic of many of his generation. Pete went through many trials and tribulations but never lost his sense of optimism, he never felt sorry for himself when life threw him a curveball … instead, he would pick himself up by his bootstraps and persevere. He loved the simple things in life, took nothing for granted. Until six months ago, he was living on his own, cooking his meals, taking care of his home and his only request was to have sports channels added to his cable and a Subway sandwich. He enjoyed every minute spent with his family and loved unconditionally.

Through a national depression, a world war, the loss of two wonderful wives, fighting and beating his own cancer, and all of life’s challenges, Pete endured it all with incredible optimism  and the same infectious smile he wore on the day this picture was taken. Pete truly exemplified the very definition of America’s Greatest Generation.
